Here’s what Wayne had for us this week.

Album: Dragon Newborn Mountain I Believe In You, Big Thief.

Dragon Newborn Mountain I Believe In You is the latest album from American indie rock band Big Thief. A double album of 20 songs, this indie folk record swims in warm, bluegrass-type melodies. There are no filler songs on this album. Wayne recommends the tracks “Flower of blood” and “Simulation Swarm”. Dragon Newborn Mountain I Believe In You is available on Spotify.

Film: Drive My Car.

Directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi, this Japanese film has received international acclaim. Based on the short stories of Haruki Murakami, Drive My Car follows a theater director’s production of a new play in Hiroshima in the wake of a personal tragedy. Cutting between his life and mediations on the play, the theater director is driven around town by a young woman as his chauffeur, where they form an unlikely bond. An Academy Award contender for Best Picture and Best Director, Wayne highly recommends Drive My Car.

Series: Dr. Death.

Based on the podcast of the same name, Dr. Death follows the true story of Christopher Duntsch, a surgeon in Texas who was convicted on numerous charges of malpractice after many of his patients died under his care. A true life crime story, Dr. Death is gripping entertainment and stars Joshua Jackson in the lead role, with Alec Baldwin, Christian Slater and AnnaSophia Robb in the supporting cast.

Album: Lucifer on the Sofa, Spoon.

The latest album by American rock band Spoon is a contender for best album of the year already. Recorded in their hometown of Austin, Texas, the album weaves effortlessly through rock and roll flourishes, 90s indie-rock and melodic hooks. A universally praised record, Lucifer on the Sofa proves that Spoon remains at the top of their game, as they have been for the last 10 years.

Lucifer on the Sofa is available at Spotify.
