Do you want something to watch but aren’t sure where to start?

2SER’s entertainment wizard, Wayne Massingham is back and he’s got you covered with his reviews of the latest and greatest in film, music and television.

It’s Wayne’s 4 by 2! 4 Reviews, 2 minutes each. Here’s what he had for us this morning:

Film: The Artifice Girl

The Artifice Girl is a sci-fi thriller where an artificial intelligence model is used to catch online predators by posing as a child. Unsuspectingly, the AI develops rapidly, taking on more human attributes than anticipated including the want for free will. This film ponders the line between what defines a human and a robot, making it an increasingly relevant film. The Artifice Girl was released directly onto streaming platforms, and is available now.

The Artifice Girl is now available on Amazon Prime. Watch the trailer here.

TelevisionJulia

Daniel Goldfarb captures Julia Child’s ambition and resilience on her journey towards achieving her dream of having a cooking show, “The French Chef”. It follows Julia throughout the 1960s as a female facing the challenges that go with becoming a televised presence, including what is “pleasing” for the audience to look at and hear. With only 2 seasons and 8 episodes each, Julia is great binge-in-one-weekend series.

Julia is now available on Foxtel. Watch the trailer here.

Television: Lucky Hank

Based on the novel “Straight Man” by Richard Russo is Paul Lieberstein and Aaron Zelman’s adaptation, Lucky Hank. The titular Hank Devereaux, played by Bob Odenkirk, is an English Professor at an underfunded university in Pennsylvania. He struggles to balance his personal and professional life as they become seemingly more and more intertwined during his middle age.

Lucky Hank is available now on Stan. Watch the trailer here.

Album: Oyster Cuts, Quivers

Quivers third album is a sparkling collection of jangle pop guitar work that pulls from 90’s pop bands and strings great melodic tracks with powerful vocal talents. Initially from Hobart but now based in Melbourne, Quivers has recently signed with American label Merge Records, showcasing their cross cultural indie credentials. Ten tracks explore the give and take dynamics of relationships and the emotional tolls they cost, for better and for worse. Hope, frustration, joy and heartbreak are packaged and delivered in one tightly produced album that any indie pop fan should not miss.

Oyster Cuts is out now on Bandcamp and Spotify.
