Film: Of An Age

Based on director Goran Stolevski’s experiences growing up gay in a Serbian family living in Melbourne, Of An Age follows the journey and romance of Kol, who agrees to go pick up with ballroom dancing partner Ebony with her brother Adam, after she wakes up stranded on a beach after a night out. Driving across Melbourne Kol and Adam are initially strangers to each other but as they spend time together they form a bond that becomes romantic.  beautifully written and handling the difficulty of coming out with tender care, the film explores Kol and Adam’s relationships and lives over two time periods; the initial 1999 drive to get Ebony and 10 year later where they meet at Ebony’s wedding.

Winner of the 2022 CinefestOz Best Film award, Of An Age is out now in cinemas. Watch the trailer here.

Television: Only Murders in the Building

This comedy series stars Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez as residents of an apartment block in New York who decide to start a podcast after a tenant in their building is murdered, intending to solve the crime themselves. Full of eccentric characters with great chemistry and dry humour, Only Murders in the Building is already on its second seasons, a testament to the strong writing and very funny approach to crime fiction,

Only Murders in the Building is out now on Disney+. Watch the trailer here.

Television: Industry

From HBO comes a drama about the price of ambition when climbing to the top of an invest bank firm. Following a cast of young graduates making their mark in the world of financial banking, we explore the pressures of success, making and closing deals and the blurring lines between friend, romance and enemy as each graduate adjusts to the reality of what it takes to be successful in this cutthroat world. Full of sex and drugs, high intensity dialogue and ruminations on the nature of finance and our self worth, Industry is a compelling watch.

Industry is out now on Binge. Watch the trailer here.

Album: Drag On Girard

Purling Hiss’s first album since 2016 is a solid example of the strengths of the Philadelphia born band. Mike Polizze started Purling Hiss in 2009 as a solo project before meeting Kurt Vile, lead guitars of rock group War on Drugs, who convinced Polizze to turn his jams into full length songs. Drag on Girard features 8 songs in total that take you on a journey from full on rock and power pop ballads to long tracks that slide comfortably in grooves with crunchy riffs.

Drag on Girard is available no on Spotify and Bandcamp.
