Wayne’s 4 X 2: Reality, Killing It and MORE!

Do you want something to watch but aren’t sure where to start? 2SER’s entertainment wizard, Wayne Massingham is back and he’s got you covered with his reviews of the latest and greatest in film and music.

It’s Wayne’s 4 by 2! 4 Reviews, 2 minutes each. Here’s what he had for us this morning.

Film: Reality

From director Tina Satter comes a drama about the real life story of Reality Winner, played by Sydney Sweeney. Reality Winner (yes, that’s her name) is a NSA operator for the United States Government, who leaked classified documents proving Russian interference in the 2016 US elections. Arrested in 2017 on charges of treason, the film lifts all its dialogue verbatim from the FBI interrogation transcript. From the banal to the nitty-gritty of stealing government secrets, reality is a fascinating and compelling watch about freedom of information and the price to be paid for acting in accordance with your conscience.

Reality is in cinemas now. Watch the trailer here.

Television: Kevin Can F*ck Himself

This dark comedy drama plays with the form of sitcom television as it deconstructs the medium we are so familiar with. Annie Murphy plays Allison Devine McRoberts, a long suffering sitcom wife living with an over sized man baby for a husband, Kevin (Eric Petersen). Think of the bumbling and oafish fathers of shows like King of Queens, The Honeymooners and more. Allison desires to escape her marriage to Kevin and this leads her to some dark places, the opposite of whenever she and Kevin are on screen together, which plays like an episode of Married with Children with multi-camera setups and even canned laughter. But when Allision steps out of frame we return to the “Real world” as she plans to take back control of her life.

Kevin Can F*ck Himself is available now on ABC iView. Watch the trailer here.

Television: Killing It

This comedy series stars Craig Robinson (Brookyln 99, THe Office) as Craig Foster, an aspiring but failing entrepreneur in Florida, who meets Jillian Glopp (Claudia O’Doherty) an Uber driver with big dreams of her own. While driving Craig, she stops to pick up a python snake she ran over, telling Craig she’s joined the Florida Python Challenge. By helping to cull the large number of pythons in Florida she is hoping to win the $20,000 cash prize that will transform her life. Craig decides to sign up as well to use the money as venture capital for a startup and the pair set off on a hilarious and bizarre adventure to realize the American Dream.

Kiling It is out now on Stan. Watch the trailer here.

Album: Western Cum, Cory Hanson

Guitar wizard Cory Hanson returns will a brand new solo album, his third since 2016. This new album features an expanded pallet of songs that differ from his usual work with Ty Seagul and their bands The Muggers and Wand. Western Cum is an incredibly compelling listen, featuring laid back ballads all out guitar riffage that harkens back to Neil Young, and complex song structures that play with your brain. This record has made Wayne’s top ten releases of the year, so you know its a good listen.

Western Cum is out now on Spotify and Bandcamp.
