Television: The Bear
This 8 episode, half hour series follows Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) who returns to Chicago to run his family’s restaurant after his brother dies. Capturing the visceral tension and chaotic energy of working in a restaurant kitchen, this great human drama is brought to life with beautiful performances and touching moments in between the chaos.

Film: The Woman King
From director Gina Prince-Bythewood comes an historical epic based on a true story. Set in 1823 West Africa, The Kingdom of Dahomey is under threat from the neighbouring Oyo Empire that desires to enslave it. Viola Davis plays General Nanisca, the titular Woman King, who trains her elite group of female warriors to fight their enemies and protect the kingdom.

Television: Abbotts Elementary
Shot in mocumentary style, this comedy sitcom follows the lives on teachers in a fictional Philadelphia school and the up and downs of what it takes to be an educator. This funny and delightful show is perfect for fans of The Office and Parks and Recreation, sharing much of the same comedic DNA, the strange little world of Abbotts Elementary School is well worth a visit.

Album: Stumpwork, Dry Cleaning
The second album from the English four piece band sees Dry Cleaning exploring a post-punk, slow rock sound. Led by Florence Shaw with his lowkey and deadpan vocal delivery, Stumpwork features jagged guitar work with an expanding sound that’s quite slower than their first album New Long Leg. The definition of a grower album, Stumpwork has new things to find every time you listen.
