Film: You Hurt My Feelings
This comedy-drama, directed by Nicole Holofcener, stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Beth, a novelist struggling with writing her latest book. Her husband Don, played by Tobias Menzies, is supportive of her writing, but lets it slip one night talking to a friend that he think’s Beth’s new book is terrible, which she overhears. Beth is distraught and their living arrangement becomes fraught with difficulties as the couple wonder what they are meant to be doing with their lives. A funny and moving film about relationships and honesty will wring some wry smiles from the audience in-between moments of genuine affectation.

Television: The Resort
Noah and Emma are on holiday for their 10 year wedding anniversary, staying in the beautiful Mayan Riviera, celebrating 10 years of marriage. But things aren’t perfect between the two, and relationship struggles threaten to upset their idyllic getaway. That is until Emma finds a phone in the jungle, and looking through it reveals the disappearance of another couple 15 years ago that has remained unsolved. As they get pulled deeper into this mystery the laughs begin to emerge from the jungle, revealing The Resort to be a genuinely comedic and unpredictable show. Highly recommended.

This Fool is about the life of Julio Lopez, his midlife crisis and Mexican Cholo culture he is a part of. 30 years old and still living with his mother, Julio lives works at “Hugs Not Thugs”, a rehabilitation centre for prisoners being released from jail. Julio is surprised to find his cousin, who has been in prison for 18 years has been released, and wants to work in the same organisation as him. A commentary on crime, culture, family and living in Los Angeles, This Fool is good fun and worth a watch if your looking for a laugh.

Album: Heaven Is A Junkyard, Youth Lagoon
The latest album from Youth Lagoon is the first in 8 years and sees intricate chamber pop composer Trevor Powers working superbly in his element. powers has previously made 3 great albums with Youth Lagoon before leaving the group after a personal tragedy to record albums under his own brand. The return to Youth Lagoon is a welcome one, featuring great arrangements of high and ‘crakey’ vocals, with lush spacious lap steel guitars running through the album’s short 35 minute runtime. These sweet song will be stuck in your head as soon as you hear them, so don’t miss out and check out Heaven Is A Junkyard today.
