Waynes 4×2 – 20 February 2025: Say Nothing, Presence and More!

Need something to watch over the weekend but not sure where to start? Want to listen to something but don’t quite know what?

Wayne Massingham is here to save you with his weekly recommendations in film, music, and television.

Television: Say Nothing

Based on the 2018 book by Patrick Radden Keefe, Say Nothing details four decades in the Troubles.

Say Nothing revolves around people growing up in Northern Ireland during that time, as well as their involvement in the IRA. The series weaves interviews from the Belfast Project into the narrative, including depictions of 1973 Old Bailey Bombing, and the subsequent hunger strike.

Say Nothing is available on Disney Plus.

Film: Presence

A supernatural-thriller film directed by Steven Soderbergh.

Told from the perspective of a poltergeist living in a large, suburban family home, the film follows a dysfunctional family of four as they move into a new home. The movie explores grief, loss and familial relationships.

Presence is available in cinemas. Watch the trailer here.

Television: Sunny

A black comedy based on the 2018 novel The Dark Manual by Collin O’Sullivan.

The story follows Suzie, an American woman living in Kyoto whose husband and son vanished in a plane crash. As consoldation, she’s given Sunny, a new class of domestic robot made by her husband’s robotics company.

Sunny is available on Apple TV

Album: Phonetic On and On by Horsegirl

The second album from Chicago based band Horsegirl. Now returned to their hometown, Horsegirl’s second album has a softer and gentler feel than their previous works. It feels sparse, but allows for more contemplative lyrics and melodic instrumentation. The album is described by Horsegirl as “utilising the expanse that the three of them didn’t occupy”.

Phonetic On and On is avaliable on Bandcamp and Youtube
