Film: Nickel Boys

The Oscar nominated historical drama film follows a pair of African American boys sent to an abusive reform school in 1960s Florida. The story is told from a first person perspective, allowing the audience to see the prejudice and abuse from the perspective of the African American community who were harmed by it. The film has been praised for being a “medium defining” work.

Television: Supacell

Set in contemporary South London, the story follows 5 ordinary black people who unexpectedly develop superpowers and are perused by a secret organisation who intends to control them. The series has an ensemble cast, including Tosin Cole, Adelayo Adedayo and Calvin Demba.

Film: Black Bag

Directed by Steven Sodenberg, this stylish crime thriller revolves around a husband and wife spy duo (played Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett respectively). The husband is tasked with investigating a list of possible traitors, one of whom might be his wife, in regards to the leak of a top-secret code.

Album: Hamilton Leithauser This Side of the Island

The third solo album by former frontman of the Walkman, Hamilton Leithauser. He gives his distinct, raspy, world-weary voice to a collection of big songs with great percussion and mature vocals.
