Wear It Purple Day
For the last ten years, August 28 has been Wear It Purple Day—an international day for raising awareness and embracing young people within the LGBTQIA+ community. This message began after the losses of young people taking their lives, due to the bullying and discrimination they experienced, and the lack of support they had as a result of their sexuality. It is a day for advocating for, and empowering young rainbow people and creating safe spaces for acceptance and inclusion.
To tell us more about how the day is being celebrated at the University of Technology Sydney, and the day’s personal meaning, we were joined by UTS’ Queer Collective Officer Melissa.
