What is “Agromining”: Commercial Potentials of Growing Metal Out of Plants
“Agromining” also known as the term Phytomining, is an innovative technology that could complement mine waste by monetising low-grade orebodies in an environmentally friendly way. Therefore, the advantages are compelling, though the concept remains in the research phase and yet to be rolled out on a commercial scale. Scientists are now attempting to determine whether farming those plants can provide an eco-friendly alternative to destructive mining while also helping to the rehabilitation of former mine sites. Professor James Vaughan from the University of Queensland, joined us earlier to discuss about Agromining and the commercial potentials in future.
