What is eco-anxiety and how can group therapy help?

As climate change looms bigger and bigger, conflicting information and combative opinions can become overwhelming. These challenging emotions about climate change have been grouped into the term “eco-anxiety”. Eco-anxiety is also felt by climate scientists who are concerned with the findings of their research and the implications this has for human civilisation.
Joe Duggan is a PHD candidate from the Fenner School of Environment and Society at the Australian National University, and conducted a trial testing whether group therapy can help environmental scientists with their feelings of eco-anxiety. He joined us this morning to explain more.
