In August 2023, Tuesday Daily presenter Lachlan A’Court posed a question to 2SER listeners: what is the newest animal? If we know that animals like sharks and crocodiles are extremely old and have been around since before the dinosaurs, then which animals have popped up most recently? At the time, the best source that Lachlan could find was a website article from a weapons manufacturer, and so the question went unanswered… until today!

After a lot of digging and emailing all kinds of people who simply weren’t able to help, Lachlan came across  Professor Angela Moles who agreed to speak with him! And so now, more than 10 months on, he brings you the answer. Kind of.
