From merchandise to memes, books to videogames, quotes to references, and even an expanded – and indeed expanding – universe, Star Wars has cemented itself in the last 42 years as one of the most influential pop culture phenomena in the three living generations today. In two days’ time, the saga will finally come to an end. Most of our parents were teenagers when the original trilogy was released. Most of us were teenagers when the prequels were released. And now, we’ll finally take our own kids to watch a Star Wars movie, like our fathers before us. Why has this franchise found such crossover appeal? Dr. Bruce Isaacs, Senior Lecturer in Film Studies at the University of Sydney, joined Sean to talk the cultural impact, and staying power, of Star Wars.
