What’s Keeping Women From Space?
We have made some leaps and bounds in terms of gender equality in the last 60 years. What about space exploration and the space industry? It is almost 60 years since the first woman cosmonaut – Valentina Tereshkova – went into space. Yet almost 90% of people who have ever travelled to space have been male. NASA aims to put the “first woman and next man” on the Moon by 2024. So, are things changing? Alice Gorman – Associate Professor in Archeology and Space Studies at Flinders University – joined The Daily to discuss the current challenges and opportunities for women in the space industry.
