What’s the Real Cost of Obscene Cigarette Package?
The latest investigation by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission has shown that the current plain packaging laws on cigarettes have failed to achieve their aim of reducing smoking in Australia. The initiative was implemented in 2012 saw Australia’s smoking rate fall only marginally – from 12.8 per cent to 12.2 per cent and tobacco consumption actually rose by 2.6 per cent in the final quarter of 2017 compared to the same period the previous year.
