What’s the Deal with Partisan Polling?

If anyone had a look at the papers yesterday morning, you would have seen the Fairfax titles declaring that last week’s budget was a tremendous flop with the voters- not a good look for a government about to contest an election. However, all the Prime Minister had to do to lift his spirits was glance at The Australian, which was very confident in its assertion that the budget was a smash hit with voters!

So what’s really going on? How can two news outlets get such different results? And how are the news polls conducted?

Julia was joined by Dr Stewart Jackson from the Department of Government and International Relations at the University of Sydney to break it all down.
