Why are we so obsessed with reality TV?
Whether you’re a reality TV binge watcher or someone who looks down upon the entire genre, there is a high chance that you have consumed or heard about people discussing at least one episode of The Bachelor or Married at First Sight. From dating shows like Love Island, game shows like Family Feud and just plain pointless shows like… well, Channel 10’s Pointless, reality TV has the perfect formula to capture the mass audience. But why is this so? Why are we so obsessed with reality TV? And why does it have such an obsessive fan base? To answer these questions and more, we were joined by Dr Jason Sternberg, Senior Lecturer from the School of Communication at QUT.
