With the Olympics only hours away, Tokyo has reported on the final day before the Opening Ceremony a surge of COVID cases putting them at a six month high. Tokyo has been placed in a state of emergency since July 12th and yet daily cases have continued to increase, leading many to wonder whether these games would happen at all.

To discuss the situation  and some of the restrictions in place, we were joined by Dr Tom Heenan, Lecturer in Sport and Australian Studies in the Monash Intercultural Lab, Monash University.
