ABOUT 2SER

We’re a not-for-profit and registered charity supported by a tiny staff team and huge community of over 200 passionate volunteers. We are–first and foremost–an independent community radio station serving a listenership throughout all of Sydney on 107.3FM and DAB+ and online internationally with the news, stories and music they won’t hear anywhere else. 

We are also a talent incubator and our alumni work across the ABC, SBS, The Daily Aus, Warner Bros, Pedestrian TV, public service and more.

This year we’re launching our Winter Internship program!

The spiel

This program focuses on developing your confidence, time management and radio production skills by placing you with a presenter and small team of producers. You will work together to support your presenter, and get a radio show live to air. The skills you learn as a producer are truly versatile and cross-disciplinary—whatever your career goals, you can take them with you.

The deets

You will be placed on a Magazine show–either Breakfast, The Daily or Drive–and work with the team to pitch ideas, find guests and write some interview questions for your presenter to ask. You’ll also learn to cut the interview audio and upload it to the 2SER website. You’re basically building your own portfolio with each story you produce and upload.

We are also shortly re-opening our Newsroom. Newsroom interns will be working with the News Director to produce daily news bulletins for our Breakfast program with a focus on independent coverage of local and breaking news stories.

If you are interested in a Newsroom placement, please select this option IN ADDITION TO a Magazine placement. Placements will be offered when the Newsroom launches.

You will be required to complete 100hrs across 5 weeks, commencing in early June 2024. Winter internships will wind up by the end of July 2024.

Hours include:

• Information session and training
• Working on story pitches
• Finding and pre-interviewing guests
• Post-production e.g. uploading content to the website and 2SER socials
• Any workshops or extra training sessions you do at 2SER

If you are successful, you will receive a response confirming your place by Friday, 7 June. Please respond promptly to reserve your placement.

The program will commence with an Information and Training session on Monday, 17 June 2024.

Definitions

Please note that, for university purposes, this “internship” with 2SER is regarded as voluntary work experience, is not considered a university-approved internship and doesn’t fulfill course requirements for an internship. Should you wish to undertake this activity as an official university-approved internship please indicate as such in the form and we’ll discuss this with you in due course.

This internship is currently an unpaid opportunity (but we’re working on it!).
