Working Towards a Newtopia: Combating Homelessness in Newtown
If you’ve recently set foot in Newtown or the Sydney CBD for that matter, you would’ve noticed the issue of homelessness is one definitely not relegated to the periphery of society. Sydney’s housing crisis is here and it’s in plain sight. Initiatives like that of the Newtopian Sleepout Fundraiser, a volunteer sleep out arranged by Newtown Neighborhood Centre on the 7th of August, tackle the problem of homelessness head on, encouraging participants to donate while ‘sleeping rough’.
In preparation for the second annual Newtopian Sleepout Fundraiser, organisation outreacher Trish Wilkinson joined Tess to talk support for the vulnerable and the importance of visualizing community as a support network for those most at risk.
