Yabun Festival
This January 26 marks Australia Day and while many mark the day with celebration, a significant group of Australians find the date to be one which marks the begin of a period of invasion and dispossession of land for the traditional owners. Among protests and rallies calling on the Government to change the date there are also festivals that mark the survival of Indigenous culture in spite of colonization. Yabun Festival is the largest one day gathering and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in Australia, held annually on 26th of January upon the traditional lands of the Gadigal people in Sydney. To tell us more about Yabun, festival producer Miah Right spoke to The Daily.
