Yalgali: Celebrating Indigenous Culture at Sydney Fringe 2024
This year’s Sydney Fringe Festival is making history with Yalgali, the inaugural First Nations Hub that celebrates Indigenous culture, art, and heritage.
Peta-Joy Williams (Wiradjuri Yinaa/Woman), a First Nations Hub producer and artist in residence, is deeply involved in bringing this vibrant three-day event to life on Gadigal land.
In our interview, Peta shares insights into the significance of Yalgali, the powerful Sacred Fire Ceremony that opens the festival, and the exciting lineup of events, including the much-anticipated Koori-oke.
Join us as we delve into what makes Yalgali a must-see highlight of the Sydney Fringe Festival 2024.
Meaning of Yalgali
Yalgali is named after the sweet nectar and blossoming essence of the ‘Gadi’ (Grass) Trees. It’s a homage to the enduring spirit of Gadigal country and its people and an acknowledgment of the owners of the land on which we will gather.
