Yarramadoon The Musical, created by Hannah and Eliza Reilly
Hannah and Eliza join stages to talk about this new work tapping into the Australian psyche of outback Australia.
Yarramadoon The Musical is the story of a small town with a big heart, and an equally large problem
with meth. It’s 2004, jean shorts are at their baggiest, denim skirts at their shortest, and if you had a
flip phone, you were basically a millionaire. Come on a musical journey as sixteen year old Shelly
chooses between inevitable teen pregnancy in her rural hometown, or beginning an exciting
career in retail in the Big Smoke, Sydney. All with the help of a kind (but casually racist) old man
who might just convince her to stay, Yarramadoon takes the grottiest aspects of rural Australia and
wraps it in all the glitter and spectacle of a musical. It captures both the charm and frustration of
living in a small town, and gives us a hilarious slice of life from Aussie characters that have never
been seen on stage.
Phenomenal female comedians, the Reilly sisters, are back! After becoming viral internet sensations, hosting radio shows, and creating the ABC Series ‘Growing Up Gracefully’, they are taking over Belvoir’s Downstairs Theatre with an Australiana musical unlike any other!
