A look into Mardi Gras theatre

Mardi Gras has begun, and for the next two weeks Sydney will be celebrating gender and sexual diversity with festivals and talks and live performances of every kind.

But while LGBTQI rights have certainly advanced in recent years, there is still a long way to go.

One area which still has a long way to go is queer theatre, according to Charles O’Grady, a trans playwright whose play Kaleidoscope opens tonight at the Montague Basement. Sam asked Charles what the term ‘queer’ means to him, given the controversy surrounding its history as a slur.
