2SER wins at New York Festivals Radio Awards 2018!

This week 2SER was awarded Silver Radio Winner and Bronze Radio Winner for Just Words at the prestigious New York Festivals International Radio Program Awards, which recognises the world’s best radio programs. The awards event was held on Monday June 18 (EST).

We were also recognised with Finalist certificates for our innovative Think programs Think: Digital Futures, Think: Health and Think: Sustainability. This is the second year running that the Think programs have been honoured at NYF’s Radio Awards; in 2017, Think: Health and Think: Digital Futures took out the Gold and Silver Award respectively.

2SER landed seven nominations in NYF’s Radio Awards, which is an impressive feat as the competition this year boasted 353 entries from over 30 countries; with entrants including the ABC, SBS, Guardian Australia, as well as international broadcasters such as BBC, CBC, NPR and more. Here’s the full list of awards 2SER received:

  • Just Words – Silver Radio Winner for Best Legal Reporting; Bronze Radio Winner for Best Writing; and Finalist for Best Editing
  • Think: Digital Futures – Finalist for Science & Technology
  • Think: Health – Finalist for Best Sound
  • Think: Sustainability – Finalist for Environment & Ecology

Congratulations to our amazing 2SER team, which includes Cheyne Anderson (Think: Digital Futures and Think: Health), Anthony Dockrill (Just Words), Nic Healey (Just Words), Emma Lancaster (Just Words), Ellen Leabeater (Just Words), Jake Morcom (Just Words, Think: Health and Think: Sustainability), Ninah Kopel (Just Words) and Miles Martignoni (Just Words). Special mentions to producers Miles Herbert, Joe Koning, Taylor Fuller for additional reporting and research assistance across all the award-winning shows.

Thanks also to Think collaborator University of Technology Sydney, the many academics and UTS staff who’ve contributed to the shows in some way, whether as interview guests or helping behind-the-scenes.

We’d also like to extend our congrats to Miles Martignoni (Sound Engineer and Supervising Producer on Just Words), who was part of the team at Guardian Australia that took out the Grand Award and Gold for The Reckoning.

Just Words is 2SER’s first original investigative podcast series that goes beyond the hype and headlines of Section 18C in the Racial Discrimination Act. The Think programs, Think: Digital Futures, Think: Health and Think: Sustainability, explores the impact of cutting-edge research on the everyday.
