Dr. Andrew Barron’s here to save the bees!
Despite their tiny proportion bees make a big impact. A third of food crops require bee pollination but these little fuzzy, black and yellow workers need our help as their population verges on extinction.
Macquarie University professor, Dr. Andrew Barron is a neuroethologist who’s been studying bee behavior for many years now. With a $300,000 grants awarded by the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation, Dr. Barron is leading a 2-year pilot program which aims to monitor beehives with the help of electronic sensors. The goal is to keep tabs on the hives and intervene in the nick of time to keep the bees from dying or abandoning their hives.
