Controlling the carp population with herpes

The environment is something Australian’s have cherished for generations, and the fight against invasive species is engrained in our identity. Now the latest attempt to control the invasive carp population wants to use herpes to stop them. But a recent paper by the University East Anglia says that this plan could cause “catastrophic ecosystem crashes”.

The Daily spoke to Associate Professor Culum Brown from Macquarie University about the risks associated with using a virus to control an animal population.
