Veterans’ Health Week: “Working out” PTSD

This week is Veterans’ Health Week – a week when we take some time to think about the health and well being of returned service people and their families. This year, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs is shining a light on the importance of physical activity for veterans recovering from the physical and psychological wounds of war.

Nic was joined by exercise physiologist Dr Simon Rosenbaum to discuss how simple, regular exercise can be enormously beneficial for veterans with depression or post traumatic stress disorder.  Dr Rosenbaum is a Senior Research Fellow from the School of Psychiatry at UNSW and an Honorary Fellow at the Black Dog Institute.  His research found that patients who incorporated exercise into their treatment programs had a reduced risk of developing heart disease and improved sleep quality.
