Should Esports be a part of the Commonwealth Games?
Esports, a form of competitive video game playing, has become more and more popular over the past decade, taking audiences out of their bedrooms and into arenas.
But the recent announcement that esports will be a medal event in the 2022 Asian Games, and that the International Olympic Committee is considering its inclusion for future Games, it seems esports cannot be dismissed by sports lovers as a niche, outsider event any longer.
To discuss esports’ slow acceptance into the mainstream, The Daily‘s Sam Baran was joined by Associate Professor Sarah Kelly of the University of Queensland live from the Gold Coast where she is there to watch the Commonwealth Games.
