Reducing the stigma against men in nursing

There’s a common assumption that nursing is a profession only for women.

Currently men make up only 10% of nurses in Australia – who are subject to a number of stereotypes from patients, the public and other medical professionals.

Recently, the Faculty of Health at UTS held an event to address and debunk some of the common misconceptions about male nurses.

Lecturer Caleb Ferguson led the event with the idea being conceived by two male student nurses at UTS- Jake and Shak.

The three spoke with Jake Morcom ahead of the panel to talk their experience in nursing and if these stereotypes are slowly loosening.
