Are they actually useful in driving a message of ecological awareness, or is Hollywood simply tapping into our greatest fears and using it to spin another quick buck? As we begin to feel the effects of climate change more and more in the real world, are the events of these films predicting our future? And is there anything we can learn from them?
The Daily spoke to Ari Mattes, a Lecturer in Communications and Media at the University of Notre Dame Australia, who helped us unpack just why eco disaster films can both help and harm us in continuing to feel the dramatic effects of global climate change.
