Birthing on Country
A groundbreaking new maternity program designed to improve the health outcomes of Indigenous mothers has recently launched due to the culmination of the University of Queensland, Australian College of Midwives, the Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses and Midwives, and the University of Sydney. Birthing on Country focuses on Indigenous mothers giving birth closer to home and removing the cultural disconnection that can perpetuate health disparities. Nic spoke with Professor Sue Kildea from the University of Queensland to discuss the program and the positive ramifications that will arise from it.
