Can swimming beat depression?

Depression is a mental illness which affects one in 35 children aged 4 to 17 in Australia alone. Antidepressants are one of the most common treatments, however there is a want for drug-free alternatives, resulting in studies into different treatment options. A new study involving a 24 year old woman in England saw her doctor prescribe a cold water swim in temperatures of 15 degrees, and after 4 months she was able to go completely drug free.
We talked to senior exercise and sports science lecturer Kate Edwards about this.
