The tale of a navigator who sailed to Australia and then vanished forever – never to be seen again – may seem more like a tragedy as opposed to your run of the mill “inspirational story”. But for Australian musician, Chris Cody, the story sparked an entire musical tour.

Chris was fascinated by La Perouse’s story – the French navigator who landed on Botany Bay just a few days after Captain Arthur Philip’s First Fleet arrived in Australia. Unlike Philip, he shortly sailed off without a trace, with his disappearance a mystery, until his journals were found in a shipwreck.

Mick spoke to Chris Cody about how he’s bringing the fascinating sailing trip to life via his musical ‘Astrolabe’ and why he resonates so deeply with an age-old journal.
