Dinosaurs in Australia – The Kunbarrasaurus
In 2005 near the town of Boulia in Queensland, an astonishing discovery was made. Preserved inside a hard rock was the skull of a dinosaur.
Palaeontologists have now examined the skull and determined it belongs to the Ankylosaurus, an armoured dinosaur that existed 196 to 66 million years ago.
This Ankylosaur is specifically a Kunbarrasaurus, which is found mostly in the southern hemisphere.
Timothy Frauenfelder is a PhD Candidate in Palaeontology at the University of New England. He led the project in identifying the Queensland Dinosaur and joins 2SER to talk about this discovery.
