Eritrean Asylum Seekers Imprisoned in Israel
Earlier this week seven Eritreans seeking asylum in Israel had their petitions rejected and have been jailed indefinitely after refusing deportation to Rwanda. The notices come as new rules were put in place demanding asylum requests be filed by the end of 2017. Despite this notion, 600 asylum seekers have received deportation notices in a move that has been labelled by the Hotline for Refugees and Migrants as ‘tainted by racism and complete disregard for the life and dignity of asylum seekers’. The question lies what will this mean for those who have received deportation notices? The Daily was joined on the line by Kevin Boreham from ANU College of Law to answer these questions.
