Making the Outback a ‘Character’ in Force of Nature: The Dry 2
In 2021, the film adaptation of Jane Harper’s award-winning 2016 debut novel The Dry, starring Eric Bana and directed by Robert Connolly, raked in $3.5 million at the box office on New Year’s Day 2021. This placed it as one of the highest-grossing Australian film opening weekends ever, proving homegrown films can compete with the best Hollywood blockbusters on equal footing. The sequel Force of Nature: The Dry 2 is out 8th of February in a cinema near you.
Director Robert Connolly was live on the Thursday Daily with Jono to chat more on how the landscapes of the Australian Outback became its own ‘character’ of sorts, as well as how streaming platforms galvanises the evolution of cinema as we know it.
