Government to tighten competition laws after Bunnings hearing

The government is calling for stronger competition laws to tackle emerging monopolies in Australia.

It comes as the Senate inquiry into supermarket pricing has heard that plant growers are just as vulnerable as food suppliers when it comes to negotiating with the hardware giant, Bunnings.

Despite industry calls for the inclusion of Bunnings in the inquiry process, Assistant Competition, Charities and Treasury Minister, Andrew Leigh says the government is working towards broader reform.
