How a smartphone app could help save the Tasmanian Devil

The Tasmanian Devil, an iconic Australian animal and the emblem of Tasmania, is in danger. Over the past two decades, the Devil’s population has been decimated due to a deadly and infectious facial tumour disease.

A new app, developed with support from the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program and Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo, hopes to improve the plight of the Tasmanian Devil and other native species.

The RoadKill TAS app will allow users to record the locations of native wildlife roadkill, which will subsequently inform adaptive management and mitigation techniques to reduce roadkill on Tasmanian roads.

Dr Sam Fox from the Save The Tasmanian Devil Program joined Sam Baran to discuss this new app.
