Hyper-independence and Post-COVID Burnout

Australia’s arts sector, like many other countries, was hit hard by Covid lockdowns. The pressure to create and deliver artistic work has been difficult and at times impossible. 

The stresses of the job and inadequate duty of care has resulted in numerous cases of post-covid burnout. Phenomenon like hyper independence, where one person takes on workloads meant for an entire team is not uncommon. 

With board members of arts organisations and employees both feeling frustrated and tired, it can be difficult to fire up the passion the arts sector requires. 

Kate Larsen, an Arts, Cultural and Non-Profit Consultant who’s worked for arts sectors across Australia, Asia and the UK, joins us now to explain the state of the arts in Australia and what can be done to improve it.
