We need to talk about periods and the environment

An average woman will use as many as 12,000 disposable, yes disposable, sanitary items in their lifetime. You can imagine what kind of effect this is having on our environment. But in a society where talking about periods is still a cultural taboo, how can we talk about the environmental impacts disposable sanitary products?

We chatted with Rosie Sheba from Sustainable Menstruation Australia where she explains the environmental impact of disposable sanitary products as well as some more eco friendly alternatives, including reusable cloth pads, and crowd favourite, menstrual cups.
