Please Explain: Sharia Law
Things got quite heated on a recent episode of Q&A. After answering a question regarding immigration, Independent Senator, Jacqui Lambie argued that any Muslim living in Australia who supports Sharia Law should be deported. Fellow panelist, Yassmin Abdel-Magied, a youth activist and a person of Muslim faith exchanged a heated debate of Senator Lambie’s understandings of Sharia Law. The Daily is asking what exactly is Sharia Law and how does it affect the lives of modern day Muslims? Dr Irfan Ahmad joined The Daily to discuss what Sharia Law is. He specialises in religion, politics and political theory. He was a senior Lecturer at Monash University and Associate Professor of Political Anthropology at ACU.
