Portrayal of First Nations Communities in the Media

How have Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities been portrayed in the media? The 2020 Black Lives Matter movement led to a global media reckoning but did we see a ripple of change in Australia’s media?

In a 6-part podcast series ‘Blak Bias’, Torres Strait Islander journalist Rhianna Patrick and Gomeroi journalist Madeline Hayman-Reber spoke with Indigenous journalists, academics, and community members about how the media have covered issues around land rights, public health, race, and racism.

Co-host of the new podcast, Rhianna Patrick joined Danny on 2SER Breakfast.

The Blak Bias podcast has been created with the support of  IndigenousX.com.au, the University of Technology Sydney, 2SER, and the Judith Neilson Institute for Journalism and Ideas.
