Ramadan Nights Lakemba and Canterbury Bankstown

Ramadan is a very big part of the year for people of the Muslim faith, and this means you must fast during daylight hours. This means that in the evenings it is the break of the fast and in Sydney, several suburban streets have developed quite a festive air as people come together to eat and relax.

Haldon Street in Lakemba is quite the Mecca for many in Ramadan, and the local Council of Canterbury-Bankstown has helped endorse the event.

Roderick Chambers asked Independent Councillor Barbara Coorey to describe the scene in Haldon Street Lakemba at night, and what’s up with Canterbury Bankstown Council in general.
