Red Cross Clinic: Free dental treatment for asylum seekers
We’ve all suffered the pain of a toothache that only a trip to the dentist could fix. But for many asylum seekers, a dental checkup is a luxury that is difficult to access. To combat this, the Red Cross Clinic provides asylum seekers with free dental care on 4 days a year from volunteer dentists. A partnership between the Australian Dental Association and the Red Cross, the clinic provided nearly $50 000 worth of treatment in 2016.
Dr Sabrina Manickam, the president of the Australian Dental Association’s NSW branch, talked about the upcoming event and why good oral health is important for the overall wellbeing of asylum seekers.
