Safety at schools for Children with disabilities
There are growing concerns that our schools and teachers aren’t equipped to properly educate children with disabilities. A recent report by the Victorian Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission into the experiences of school students with disabilities has found that of the 900 teachers who responded, 60 per cent reported having used restraint, with just over half also admitting they feel as though they have not received enough training. Many teachers are sufficiently trained and enjoy their jobs, but why are these incidents occuring? And what can we do to stop them?
Dr Sally Robinson from the Centre for Children & Young People at Southern Cross University spoke to The Daily today about the issues.
