Science Spotlight: Iron Snails

It’s time for Science Spotlight. Each week we talk about the big breakthroughs and the unique discoveries made in the pursuit of scientific knowledge.

This week, Cameron caught up with Dr. Julia Sigwart – an expert in Molluscan Evolution (a snail expert, if you will) to chat about a sea snail with its own suit of armour. The scaly-foot snail – or more commonly known as the Sea Pangolin, is a rare and unique sea creature that makes its home near volcanic thermal vents. While it lives in fairly remote areas of the ocean, this creature is threatened by deep sea mining. So what is being done to protect this species? Dr. Julia Sigwart has the answers.
