The shortfalls of the recycling industry

Just over a month ago, the Melbourne Coolaroo recycling facility went up in flames – the third fire at the facility this year.

Since then a petition has sprung up on to close it down and also raised concerns about what and how many materials are stored unnecessarily in the facility itself.

Trevor Thompson is a Lecturer in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences at Deakin University and spoke with Lia Tsamoglou about the shortfalls of recycling centres and what can be done to stop events like this from happening again in the future.
