The Simpsons’ Apu: Funny or Offensive?
The animated series ‘The Simpsons,’ has been a much loved show amongst households worldwide for many years. With 29 seasons running since 1989, the show has been accepted as a pivotal part of of film and tv, impacting our understanding of modern popular culture. A character that has played a key role in this cartoon, is Indian American kwik-E-Mart owner Apu. However, the recently debuted documentary ‘The Problem with Apu,’ has been stirring controversy, by asking the question, is Apu in fact a harmful stereotype?
