The Pill and Mental Health
The 1960’s marked an era of female empowerment, with the introduction of the contraceptive pill presenting an opportunity for women to control menstruation and risk of pregnancy. Presently, ‘the pill’ is being used by over 100 million women around the world; in Australia it is used by 1 in 4 women aged 18 to 49. However, for many, it is unknown that there are links between the pill and mental health side effects. Jayashri Kulkarni, Professor of Psychiatry at Monash University, joined us on the line to elaborate.
